vista beta 2 cant boot

vista beta 2 cant boot

i have a toshiba m40 laptop, can't boot vista public beta 2
can't get into the windows gui... in safe mode, it will get stuck at crcdisk.sys
made a clean install with vista on the first partition, other partitions are just doc files (not os related)
i think this computer uses a sata controller (googled it, and verified with device manager)
Intel Corporation 82801FBM (ICH6M) SATA Controller (rev 04)
any way to get vista to boot? (i know its beta)
the intel drivers don't seem to install

I am getting the same results you are, only I'm running a Thinkpad X41 Tablet, and it has an apparently recognized IDE drive. But like you, I get stopped in safe mode at crcdisk.sys.
I tried using boot options to enable boot logging, but no file seems to be created.
At
least on the Thinkpad, I'm starting to wonder if it is some of Lenovo's value add software for rescue/recovery, or security, that might be the problem. I don't know if the Toshiba ships with similar pieces.
If you make any progress, or find a way to further debug the problem, I'd appreciate a reply. Thanks!

I am having the same problem unable to boot vista public beta 2.
Installation goes fine, until initial boot. In safe mode the last loaded file is crcdisk.sys. Running a Toshiba Tecra A4 laptop with an IDE drive and Intel 82801FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controller.
Any suggesstions on how to boot vista would be greatly appreciated.

Below is information I pulled from the MSDN website:
"The BIOS code was enabling MSI Hotplug support for a system board that didn't support it and generating a FSB error in the process. Vista was either trying to load a driver for the hotplug support, or it picked up on the FSB error and generated the MCE BSOD.
After the BIOS team where I work reviewed their BIOS code, they found that they were not making a check in the BIOS Initialization for the platform support of MSI Hotplug before enabling it.
Now that I have a BIOS that is not enabling MSI Hotplug on my test system, I have been able to install all builds of Vista newer than 5231, including the FebCTP build 5308 and newer.
Hope this helps everyone, but it looks like you need to start looking towards your motherboard vendors for BIOS updates that address VIsta issues."
I have a similar issue but mine is really wierd.
First Install and startup on Toshiba Tablet R15-S822 is good. All reboots in Normal Mode results in BSOD. First Reboot to Safe Mode results in BSOD. Second Reboot in Safe is Good. I've uninstalled several drivers yet to find the culprit. Hence my search of the MSDN Site.
I'm running the most recent bios available from Toshiba.
I hate to say it, but I'm going back to XP SP2 until there is a resolution.

Same here. When trying to install Vista Beta 2 on my M40 Toshiba Satellite, everyting goes nice until the last reboot. On Safe mode, it hangs on crcdisk.sys.

Identical problem on a Toshiba m40. Any progress on this?

How much memory do you have? Have you checked with Toshiba's site to see if you have the right BIOS?

I have 1 gigabyte of memory. I talked with Toshiba tech support and they pointed me to the correct BIOS for my laptop. It was one of the custom build options so it didn't fit nicely in their model naming scheme but they were able to locate a compatible model with the same BIOS.

I have got the exact same problem, except I managed to get a very long error code.
0x0000007f 0x00000008 0x80145000 0x00000000
Safe mode produced the exact same error, so I'm going back to XP SP2.
I've an Acer TravelMate 4050. It has a 60gb HDD, 1024GB Ram and a DVD-RAM. I'm really frustrated because I'm on Dial Up so I decided to pay (gasp) to get the DVDs shipped to me. Took over a month to arrive :0(
Cheers
Matt

Helo from Switzerland, I've got the same problem - the system hangs on the first start after installation. In safe mode it stops at crcdisk.sys. My Toshiba is a Tecra A4 PTa40E, 1 GB Ram, ATA Controller: Intel 82801FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2653 . Any suggesstions on how to boot vista would be greatly appreciated.
greets, Rafael

This may be something interesting:
I've just tried to install the 5456 Build on my Toshiba M40 (P-M 2.0Ghz, 1GB DDR Ram, 60GB HDD, GeForce 6600) and It won't even install on this model. The compatibility check stops the Setup. It runs the check, presents a screen that is entitled "Compatibility Report" and the only button available exits Vista setup.
So maybe MS has started to find this crcdisk error with notebooks of this type, or similar configuration, and is stopping the install from working at all for now?

That's odd, I was able to install 5456 just fine however it still exhibits the same behavior as beta 2. Though I did notice that the upgrade adviser now flags more potential problems with my laptop than it had previously. Before Beta 2 the only problem it detected was the iee1394 adapter now it lists "Toshiba mobile pc driver" I am guessing this is the root of the problem. I assume that the mobile driver is probably a collection of software drivers or perhaps even a bios update that will need to be written by Toshiba before these laptops will be able to run Vista.

Don't know what your setup is, but I resolved this problem by physically unplugging my older CD-RW drive.
